Letter from the Chief

A smiling man in a formal fire chief uniform and hat stands outdoors. His jacket has an American flag patch, medals, and gold buttons. Green trees and a car are in the background.
East Providence Fire Department

Welcome to the official website of the Fire Department and Emergency Management Agency, proudly serving the residents, businesses, and visitors of East Providence.

It is both an honor and a privilege to serve this community as your Fire Chief and Director of Emergency Management. Our department is committed to protecting life, property, infrastructure, and the environment through a comprehensive approach that includes fire suppression, emergency medical services, hazardous materials response, technical rescue, flammable and combustible liquids response, maritime operations, and coordinated emergency management.

Public safety today requires more than emergency response. It demands preparedness, prevention, planning, and strong partnerships. As both Fire Department and Emergency Management Agency, we work year-round to reduce community risk, enhance disaster readiness, and strengthen resilience. Whether responding to a structure fire, providing advanced medical care, mitigating a hazardous materials incident, coordinating hurricane preparedness, or conducting community risk reduction programs, our mission remains constant: to serve with professionalism, integrity, and compassion.

Our members train continuously to maintain operational readiness and meet nationally recognized standards. We invest in modern equipment, data-driven decision-making, and professional development to ensure that our services evolve with the needs of our community. Transparency and accountability guide our operations, and we remain committed to responsible fiscal stewardship of the resources entrusted to us.

Public safety is a shared responsibility. We encourage residents and business owners to engage with us—through fire prevention programs, emergency preparedness initiatives, and community outreach events. Together, we can build a safer, more resilient East Providence.

On behalf of the dedicated men and women of this department, thank you for your continued trust and support. We are proud to serve you—24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Respectfully,

Michael P. Carey
Fire Chief / Emergency Management Director
